Psalm 121:3
“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber”
Have you ever been in this type of situation, where something goes terribly wrong and you’re in a position where you probably should just ask for help, but for whatever reason you don’t? Many things seem to stand in our way of getting the help we need, and it can be our stubbornness and pride. This human nature to refuse help or pretend we don’t need it can make an impossible journey of faith. You see, to have faith means, from the very beginning, that we acknowledge there is a higher power at work in the world, God.
We as humans are “utterly dependent” on God. We can do nothing apart from God. Our foundation is God’s infinite power and goodness, on which we stand cannot be moved and while we stand on this basis, our foot cannot be moved. Here the psalmist by no means gives the sense that our God at any time lets His mind wander, unaware of what is happening in His children’s lives. Not only is He ever on guard, He is also ready, willing, and able to intervene with His strength. He is not a parent distracted by other concerns so that He neglects His children. Because of His sheer love for us, all things work together for our good. These words of promise are confirmation that God will always be there to help us throughout eternity.
